Residents at the Royal Star & Garter

Fees

Before an application to live at a Royal Star & Garter Home can progress it is necessary for funding arrangements to be in place. For applicants seeking permanent residence, there are generally four possible sources of funding:

  • Self-Funding
  • NHS Continuing Care Funding
  • Social Services Funding
  • War Pensions Funding

More details about these can be found below.

Currently weekly charges range from £810 to £950, dependent on care needs and location, plus Registered Nursing Care Contribution (RNCC). RNCC is a government contribution towards nursing costs that is retained by the Charity. This is only paid for self-funding residents and the assessment for this is carried out by the local Primary Care Trust.

Sources of Funding

Self-Funding

If an applicant has assets in excess of the threshold set by the Government (currently £20,500 including the sale or the value of any property as of December 2005) they will be regarded by Social Services as self-funding. All self-funding residents will need to meet the criteria for nursing care. (These residents will need to apply to the Social Services Department local to the Home for assistance with funding if, at a later date, their assets are approaching £20,500.) Anyone who can self-fund but who is unable to self-fund for more than two years should apply to their local Social Services Department for an assessment of their care needs.

Social Services Funding

An applicant may be eligible for Social Services funding if their assets are below the figure set by the Government (currently £20,500). In this case they will need to apply to their local Social Services Department for an assessment of needs. The Charity is prepared to enter into negotiations with Social Services Departments in order to attempt to agree an appropriate level of funding. Where Social Services rates fall below our fee level, it may be necessary to seek a top-up payment from the applicant/family.

NHS Continuing Care Funding

Some residents with exceptionally high nursing care needs may qualify for 100% NHS funding and an appropriate level of fee will be negotiated with the NHS.

War Pensions Funding

Applicants in receipt of 100% War Disability Pensions and a full attendance allowance may apply to the Veterans Agency for consideration of funding. It is rare to obtain this funding for permanent admissions. However, funding for respite admissions in the Home is more common.

For short break admissions, similar sources of funding may apply, although the criteria and eligibility will differ.
