New Homes Update

The Royal Star & Garter Charity is planning to build new homes over the next few years to provide care for disabled ex-Service people in the best modern surroundings, which will eventually replace the outmoded Richmond Home. The first of these prestigious new homes is the award-winning Solihull Home in the West Midlands, which includes a specialist dementia care wing. A second new home, which will replace the current Richmond Home, will be built in Surbiton and, after much research and careful deliberation, the Board of Governors has selected Buckinghamshire as the location for a third Royal Star & Garter Home. As with Solihull, Buckinghamshire was chosen as there is a marked gap in the provision of good quality care, as well as a shortage of dementia facilities and almost no designated ex-Service beds. Predictions show there will be a significant increase in demand in the area in the years ahead. A promising site has already been identified and we hope to make significant progress during the next year.

The state-of-the-art facilities at Solihull, which will be emulated in the other new homes, have also enabled the Charity to offer interim care for young disabled Service personnel, and will ensure that the best care will be available to all who may need it now and in the years to come.
