The Royal Star & Garter Home Solihull, for disabled ex-Service men and women, was delighted to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress of Solihull, Cllr Norman Davies and Mrs Brenda Davies for a visit this week.

The Mayor, who has the honorary title of Vice President of The Royal Star & Garter Homes Charity during his term of office, was greeted by the Charity's Chairman, Vice Admiral Sir John Dunt, and the Chief Executive Mike Barter. Also in the welcoming party were Pauline Shaw, Director of Care and Development, and Sue Tompkins, Manager of the Solihull Home.

The Mayor and Mayoress were given a full tour of the home, which opened in August 2008, meeting residents and staff along the way. The Charity is committed to providing the finest quality nursing and therapeutic care and the party were able to observe a cake making session in the activities department as well as treatments provided in the physiotherapy room. They also took in other facilities including the roof garden terrace and hairdressing salon, and were invited in to view one of the resident's large, en suite bed sitting rooms.

The Mayor said: "The Mayoress and I were impressed by the careful thought and attention to detail that has been invested into the Royal Star & Garter Home. It sits beautifully into its surroundings, the finishes are of high quality, and the overall feel is of airiness and style. Residents have rooms that are spacious and adaptable to their individual needs. Add to this a team of cheerful, confident and caring staff and you have a standard that others can aspire to."

The new home won the Pinders Healthcare Design Award for the best design for a new care home in the larger care home category 2009.
