The Roundel Wing at our Solihull Home

In the Roundel Wing we are committed to providing a full and meaningful life for residents with dementia and we always remember that they are individuals and this is their home.  Our philosophy is to treat each person with respect and respond to their unique needs and preferences.

The ground floor dementia wing is a safe and homely environment with 15 rooms for residents who require this specialist care. Based on expert research and guidance, our building interior and garden designs promote choice, safety and peace of mind.

Promoting Health & Maintaining Wellbeing

Our staff have a caring and positive approach, welcoming the involvement of family and friends to better understand each person and to assist in planning care and developing relationships.

Using a therapeutic approach we help people with dementia to maintain a sense of wellbeing and purpose.

We have embarked on a two year project with Dementia Care Matters (www.dementiacarematters.com) in the pursuit of excellent quality dementia care services. Staff will be undertaking a continual process of person centred care training and a range of exciting new initiatives will be put in places as we progress. A greater emphasis is placed on staff involvement as we recognise the need for more personal attention, reassurance and support. The staff have the required training, skills and experience combined with an attitude which ensures a truly special service.

Dining

The Roundel Wing has its own dining room and adaptable approach to mealtimes as we understand the need for flexibility and choice. The menu is varied and nutritious. Snacks and drinks are available 24 hours a day.

A Warm Homely Environment

The Roundel Wing is designed to help people to feel confident, relaxed and independent. All rooms have the technology to support independence and choice. A discreet nurse call system and sophisticated monitoring and lighting ensure privacy and safety, particularly at night. Everyone can enjoy a dedicated and safe sensory garden.

Promoting & Maintaining Personal Interests

Participation in leisure activities is significant in maintaining wellbeing. We aim to maintain the unique and valuable aspects of a person's life, prompting their memories and enabling their remaining abilities through activities and reminiscence.

For example, there are a variety of daily activities that a person may choose to participate in which allows long forgotten skills to be rediscovered and new ones to be developed. This helps to build self esteem, so that each person feels valued and lives with purpose and meaning.

We are here to help and would welcome your call to find our more about our dementia facilities and care. Please don't hesitate to contact Julia Wareing on 0121 711 6330 or email julia.wareing@starandgarter.org
