WET AND WILD - ROYAL STAR & GARTER FUN RUN A HUGE SUCCESS
Last Sunday morning, on 13th May, around 70 runners including serious athletes, individuals and families alike took part in either a 5K or 10K Fun Run in aid of The Royal Star & Garter Charity. All competitors were in good spirits despite the wet weather conditions and a great deal of fun was had by all.
Theo Ford won first place in the 5K race; Matt Holden won first place in the 10K race and Tom Morrey came first in the 13 and under category. Alistair Holmes, Events Manager at The Royal Star & Garter Homes said, “Well done to everyone! A special congratulation goes to our oldest competitor Jean Allum, who successfully completed the 5K race at the wonderful age of 73. It was a great day and we thank you all for your support”.
Resident at The Royal Star & Garter Home, Dick Martin (Royal Marines Rtd) was pushed around the entire 5K course by staff member, George Pearce who did a fantastic job.
After an early registration, children had their faces painted and runners took their places at the start line at 10am. Every runner received a medal and after race was over, the drenched competitors were invited back to the Richmond Home to warm up with hot drinks and a barbeque and the winners to collect their awards.

The Royal Star & Garter Charity has been caring for disabled ex-Service personnel since 1916. The Charity offers the best in nursing and therapeutic care for anyone is physically disabled or incapacitated and has served in Her Majesty’s Forces. There are also a wide variety of leisure activities available for our residents to enjoy, both internally and at outside venues. The Royal Star & Garter Charity is embarking on an ambitious and wide reaching project to build new homes, in the South West London area and elsewhere, to provide specialist care for elderly disabled ex-Service people in the best modern surroundings and will include a specialist dementia wing. The first of these will open in Solihull in the summer of 2008.
