The 27th June is National Veterans Day when the nation honours UK veterans, and is a key highlight in the year’s calendar for both residents and staff at The Royal Star & Garter Homes for disabled ex-Service men and women. The Charity is currently building a brand new state-of-the-art care home on Monkspath Hall Road, Solihull and thought this special occasion would be the perfect opportunity to invite local Solihull residents to an informal open afternoon.
The Charity will celebrate this important day and give people a chance to come and find out more about the work of the Charity, meet some of the team and ask any questions. Special guest, Falklands Veteran Simon Weston OBE, Vice President of the Charity, will also be present to answer questions and chat about the Charity’s future in Solihull. The Star & Garter is also delighted that the Mayor and Mayoress of Solihull have accepted an invitation to the event and will be attending to get to know the Charity better.
Open from 3pm-5pm on the 27th June, this event is taking place at the Solihull Arts Complex, Homer Road, in the centre of Solihull. Members of the team will be on hand to talk about the new Solihull Home, the history of the Charity, the care provided, volunteering, jobs and anything else you can think of!
“We believe it is vital to build strong links with the local community and to that end, we want to ensure we give people an opportunity to find out more about the Charity on a face-to-face basis,” explains Patsy Willis, Director of Fundraising and PR who will be present at the event. “We hope that many people will be able to make it and we look forward to meeting them there!”
About the Royal Star & Garter Charity – founded in 1916.
The Royal Star & Garter Charity has been caring for disabled ex-Service personnel at its famous Richmond home since 1916. The Charity offers the best in nursing and therapeutic care for anyone who is physically disabled or incapacitated and has served in Her Majesty’s Forces. Royal Star & Garter residents are also encouraged to enjoy a wide variety of leisure activities both internally and at outside venues. The new Royal Star & Garter Home in Solihull marks the start of an ambitious and wide reaching project by the Charity to build new homes in different parts of the country in which to provide specialist care for the ex-Service elderly disabled, and for those with dementia for whom there is very little provision at present.
