Hampton Court Station regeneration plans submitted to Council

Plans to redevelop the area around Hampton Court Station have been submitted to
Elmbridge Council. The proposals, which have been drawn up by the Gladedale Group,
Network Rail and The Royal Star & Garter Homes, follow over two years of consultation with
local groups and other interested parties. The development will provide:

- A large riverside terrace stepping down to the River Thames, providing a stunning public area to enjoy views across the river
- A high quality hotel at the head of the development, overlooking the Thames
- A refurbished station building with new waiting facilities, ticket office and public toilets 61 new residential apartments and five mews houses
- A new care home for The Royal Star & Garter Homes Charity, providing accommodation for disabled elderly ex-Service men and women.
- New restaurants and shops at ground level to create a vibrant area around the station
- An information centre to boost tourism in the area
- Replacement car parking for station users along with parking for the new development which will be provided underground
- A new transport interchange with a pedestrian-friendly forecourt with good and safe links to East Molesey and Hampton Court Bridge, along with better bus stop and taxi drop off facilities.

The proposals will go on display at a public exhibition, which takes place at the Mitre Hotel in Hampton at:
2pm – 7pm, Friday 16 November 2007
10am – 4pm, Saturday 17 November 2007

Paul Lemar, Land and Planning Director for Gladedale, said:

“These proposals provide an opportunity to transform this neglected area, helping to revitalise
an unattractive part of East Molesey and provide a wonderful first impression for visitors
arriving at the refurbished station.

“We have changed our plans quite dramatically over the last couple of years in response to
comments from local residents and other interested groups, and the proposals are very much
in line with the Planning Brief established for the site.”

Earlier this year, The Royal Star & Garter Charity for disabled ex-Service men and women,
based in Richmond, announced that it intended to build a new Royal Star & Garter Home on
the Hampton Court Station site. The site was chosen by the Charity following an extensive
search of Richmond and the surrounding area, when a considerable number of sites were
considered. The flat location and proximity to the river and adjoining park are distinct
advantages that will greatly enhance the disabled residents’ ability to get out and about. The
site is also in a very desirable area and borders the Borough of Richmond, which has been
the Charity’s home for over 90 years, ensuring links with local volunteers and organisations
can be maintained.

Chairman of the Board of Governors of The Royal Star & Garter Homes, Vice Admiral Sir John Dunt, added:
“This site is perfect for us and would enable our new home to remain in the local area,
ensuring the continuation of our traditions and history, and links with the local community. We
have worked closely with the architects, Allies & Morrison, to design a new home which is
light, modern and airy and fulfils everything we desire for our residents as well as being
sensitive to the local environment.”
