MAYOR VISITS THE ROYAL STAR & GARTER HOME AND JOINS IN FARMYARD FUN

The Mayor of Richmond Upon Thames, Cllr Robin Jowit, and the Lady Mayoress, Mrs Daphne Jowit visited The Royal Star & Garter Home this week and joined residents and staff in the great Queen’s Room where travelling farm, “Millers Ark”, had recreated a Farmyard indoors.

The travelling farm included sheep, goats, donkeys, chickens and a rooster, rabbits, a pig  and a farm dog,  as well as some delightful baby kids and lambs – only a couple of weeks old.  Residents were able to hold the smaller animals and pet the larger animals all of whom behaved beautifully!

The Mayor and Mayoress joined in the fun and later visited the activities and therapy areas, where they saw residents exercising in the physiotherapy gymnasium and receiving speech therapy.  They also visited the residential unit where a resident’s birthday party was underway, and a unit where some of the Home most disabled residents are cared for.

The Mayor and Mayoress then had tea with the Home’s Chief Executive, Lynn McDougall, and, before departing, had an opportunity to view plans and a “mock up room” of  the Charity’s  proposed development of new homes in the Richmond area and elsewhere.

About the Royal Star & Garter Charity

The Royal Star & Garter Home, an independent registered charity based in Richmond, has been caring for disabled ex-Service personnel since 1916. The Charity offers the best in nursing and residential care plus a range of therapies. There are also a wide variety of leisure activities available for our residents to enjoy, both inside and outside the Home. In future years, The Royal Star & Garter Charity intends to build new homes, in the Richmond area and elsewhere, in which to provide specialist care for the elderly disabled, and for those with dementia for whom there is very little provision at present.
