MP VISITS THE ROYAL STAR & GARTER HOME
ON NATIONAL VETERANS DAY
Tuesday 27th June marked the first National Veterans Day and MP for Richmond Park, Susan Kramer called into The Royal Star & Garter Home on Richmond Hill to meet some of the veterans who are cared for at the Home for disabled ex-Service men and women.
The Richmond MP toured units where residents enjoy superb facilities including spacious single rooms and day rooms with magnificent views across the Thames and beyond.
Ms Kramer chatted with residents in their rooms before moving on to the Home’s Queen’s room where residents were enjoying a game of BINGO. Here she met among others the Home’s oldest resident, Mrs Pat Mervyn-Smith, who was 100 years old in March.
During the visit Ms Kramer was updated on the Charity’s plans to build new homes, in the local area and elsewhere, to provide the best possible care facilities for as many ex-Service people as possible. Ms Kramer said she thoroughly enjoyed her visit and would come back again to visit residents whenever she could. She also very kindly donated an auction prize of “Tea at the House of Commons” for the Charity’s 90th Birthday Ball on Saturday.
Meanwhile another group of residents travelled to the Imperial War Museum in Lambeth to join the National celebrations of the first Veterans Day. The trip was also the maiden voyage of the Home’s new coach, launched on Monday.
The Royal Star & Garter Home, an independent registered charity based in Richmond, has been caring for disabled ex-Service personnel since 1916. The Charity offers the best in nursing and residential care plus a range of therapies. There are also a wide variety of leisure activities available for our residents to enjoy, both inside and outside the Home. In future years, The Royal Star & Garter Charity intends to build new homes, in the Richmond area and elsewhere, in which to provide specialist care for the elderly disabled, and for those with dementia for whom there is very little provision at present.
