Pre-employment Checks

As a service provider in the Nursing and Care sector, the Charity is required under the Care Standards Act 2000 to gather employment references, verify qualifications and make CRB checks prior to commencement of employment. In addition to these requirements, employment is also dependent on successful medical clearance, eligibility to work and a three month probationary period.

The Charity is required, under the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 to establish the right of prospective employee's to work within the UK. This will require the presentation of a current passport and supporting documentation from the Home Office. Please note, further checks and advice from the Home Office may be sought to confirm the validity of documentation and employment status.

CRB Policies

The Charity is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and is therefore able to ask about convictions during the recruitment process. All successful appointees are required to have an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Disclosure and with effect from the 1st July 2010 there will also be a requirement for all staff to be registered with the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) as a suitable person to work with vulnerable adults.

The Charity will seek at least two satisfactory references from current or previous employers, the most recent of which will be confirmed verbally. Where this is not possible, character references may be accepted and periods where registered unemployed will be confirmed with the Employment Centre.

Proof of qualifications, professional membership and training will be necessary, particularly where this is required for the role.

The Charity makes recruitment decisions that are objective and based on an appointee's skills and abilities in light of the needs of the post.
