Training & Development

All staff employed by the Charity have access to full training and development opportunities suitable to meet the needs of the role and designed to underpin our dedication to the delivery of a quality service for our residents. The Charity is a committed Investor in People and during 2008 we were audited and re-accredited with this Award.

We offer a full induction programme covering all aspects of the New Common Induction Standards set by our regulator, the Care Quality Commission. This programme is compulsory for all staff whether they are taking up a permanent role or working on a temporary or bank contract. The induction programme helps staff to settle in quickly and get used to how we work and gain the knowledge they need to start supporting our residents.

Nursing Training

We work closely with the local Primary Care Trusts and Universities to ensure that Nurses receive clinical updates in support of their professional CPD requirements. Ensuring night staff have regular access to training and development opportunities is of particular importance. Every member of our night staff has a planned two week period each year working as part of the day shift. The two week programme is designed to cover all mandatory training and allows time for the Nurse to increase their knowledge and understanding of residents during day time hours.

Health Care Assistant Training

Once a Health Care Assistant is confirmed in post, full support is provided to achieve completion of NVQ Level 2. Currently 95% of all care staff working in the Richmond Home have achieved at least NVQ Level 2 and more than 30% have progressed and completed Level 3.

IT Training

IT training is a key skill that benefits everyone in the Charity. In the current Richmond Home we have a dedicated computer suite which is accessible to all, and we provide professional training to ensure that there are appropriate opportunities for staff to learn or improve their computer skills. IT training in our new Hampton Court and Solihull Homes will be provided locally to ensure skills are kept up-to-date.
